What is the maximum annual contribution for an IRA?

For 2026, the maximum annual contribution to an Individual Retirement Account (IRA) is:

  • $7,500 if you are under age 50
  • $8,600 if you are age 50 or older (includes a $1,100 catch-up contribution

This limit is combined across all IRAs, including both Traditional IRA and Roth IRA accounts.

You cannot contribute more than your earned income for the year.
