There are 12 Federal Reserve Districts, and each one has a Federal Reserve Bank that handles functions like check clearing. Oregonians CU is in District 12.
A check is considered ‘local’ if it is processed within the same Federal Reserve District – so for us, that means within District 12.
Just because a check lists a bank address in Oregon doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a local check. Whether a check is local or non-local depends on the routing number printed on it.
To determine which Federal Reserve District a check will clear through, look at the first two digits of the routing number. If the routing number starts with something outside the range 01–12, subtract 20 from those first two digits to find the corresponding Federal Reserve District.
