1.Do not return the note to the passer. If the passer becomes aggressive and demands the note back, give it back. Maintaining your personal safety is more important than identifying a potentially counterfeit note.
2.Identify the note received is counterfeit.
3.Notify your supervisor who will report the issue via the red flag reporting process on SharePoint to include copies of the report referenced below.
4.Delay the passer if possible. If the passer decides to leave, do not try to stop them.
5.Limit the handling of the note.
- Write your initials and the date in the white border areas of the suspect note.
- Carefully place it in a protective covering, such as an envelope.
6.Fill out the USSS Counterfeit Note Report found on SharePoint.
7.PD will determine if the wish to interview all involved individuals. They may choose not to interview if it is an isolated incident.
8.PD will provide you with the case report number of the incident.
9.Surrender the note and copy of the completed Counterfeit Note Report only to a properly identified police officer or send the report and the Counterfeit Note Report to the following Secret Service office while keeping copies of both the report and the bill or bills provided. Again, handle the bills as little as possible.
10.Take a picture of the bill. Front & Back. This will need to be attached to the red flag task.
11.If the amount is in excess of $200 Contact the local PD at by dialing 9-1-1. Let the Dispatcher know your situation and request an Officer. Be prepared to provide descriptions of the passer, any companions, and license plate numbers of any vehicles used if possible. If Under $200 then proceed without contacting the local PD.
